Box Score Mary McCarthy and Monica Jenkins netted two goals each as
Randolph-Macon Field Hockey (2-4 / 1-0 ODAC) defeated Virginia
Wesleyan 6-1 in Ashland Thursday.
Randolph-Macon got off to a quick start with senior Mary
McCarthy scoring on a breakaway just two minutes in.
Freshman Mikalea Rumley rattled the cage in the 5th
minute on a pass from classmate Lauren Seal to put R-MC up 2-0.
Monica Jenkins scored her first goal of the contest 18 minutes
into the first half, extending the Jackets' lead to 3-0.
The Marlins broke up the shutout in the 20th minute
when Taylor Lober scored on a rebound.
McCarthy netted a pass from Seal and Jenkins converted a penalty
stroke to give Randolph-Macon a 5-1 advantage heading into
halftime.
Seal tacked on the game's only second half goal in the
47th minute on a pass from Courtney Owens.
Randolph-Macon held a 35-8 advantage in shots and a 12-5 edge in
penalty corners.
Nicole Woodworth stopped four shots in goal for the Jackets
while Marlins' keeper Laura Thorn made 16 saves, 13 of those
coming in the first half.
R-MC Field Hockey will be back in action Saturday, September
18th when they host Frostburg State at 1:00.
