Box Score 2 EMORY, VA—R-MC Softball scored 25 runs on 26 hits
including seven homeruns on the way to a doubleheader sweep of
Emory and Henry 6-3 and 19-1 in Emory Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets
improve to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in the ODAC.
Megan Shepherd (South View, VA/ Park View) broke a scoreless tie
in the third inning of game one with a solo homerun to centerfield
for the Jackets. Kelly Beard (Williamsport, MD/ Williamsport)
extended the lead to 2-0 with a solo shot of her own to start the
fourth. R-MC tacked on one more run in the inning to take a 3-0
advantage.
Emory and Henry got on the board with an RBI single from Anne
Saville in the bottom of the sixth. The Wasps then took advantage
of a Jackets' error to push across two more runs, tying the
game at 3-3 heading into the top of the seventh.
Laura Bauer (New Kent, VA/ New Kent) responded for
Randolph-Macon in the top of the seventh with a two run homerun to
left center after Morgan Greene (Virginia Beach, VA/ Tallwood) led
off the inning with a double. The Jackets pushed across another run
on a Wasps' error to take a 6-3 lead which would hold to be
the final of game one.
Beard picks up her third win of the season after allowing no
earned runs and striking out seven in seven innings of work.
Bauer finished 2-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI to pace R-MC.
Beard and Shepherd also finished 2-for-4 with a homerun and an RBI.
Megan Smith is stuck with the loss after allowing two earned
runs in two innings of relief. Saville paced the Wasps with a
2-for-3 game including a double and an RBI.
Lauryn Nanny (Chester, VA/ Thomas Dale) put Randolph-Macon on
the board in the first inning of game two with a solo homerun to
left center.
Emory and Henry quickly responded in the bottom half with two
hits resulting in a run scoring on a passed ball.
The Yellow Jackets rallied to take a 6-1 lead after scoring five
runs on four hits in the top of the second. Greene and Shepherd
both brought home a run with RBI singles and Beard smashed a single
down the left field line to score Greene and Nanny.
R-MC sent 13 batters to the plate in the top of the third en
route to an eight run inning. Paige Smith (Harborton, VA/ Nandua)
led off the inning with a solo homerun to left center. The Jackets
then loaded the bases for Nanny who ripped her second homerun of
the game, this time a grand slam to left. Smith singled home two
runs in her second at bat of the inning before Shepherd capped the
rally with a run scoring single to center.
Bauer highlighted a five run fourth for Randolph-Macon with a
three run homerun to left center. Shepherd drove in two more runs
with a single up the middle to put R-MC up 19-1 which would prove
to be the final.
Nanny finished a perfect 4-for-4 with two homeruns and five RBI
to lead the Jackets. Shepherd and Smith both went 3-for-4; Shepherd
drove in four runs while Smith had a homerun and three RBI.
R-MC starting pitcher Heather Lewis (Glen Allen, VA/ Deep Run)
improved her record to 5-3 on the season after allowing no earned
runs and striking out three. Kristen Dize (Onancock, VA/ Nandua)
and Christi Wise (Akron, PA/ Ephrata) combined for two innings of
hitless relief.
Sierra Waters picks up the loss after allowing six runs in an
inning and a third.
Randolph-Macon hosts Lynchburg College Saturday, April
10th, for a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader.
