Box Score

ST.MARY'S, MD – The Randolph-Macon Men's Basketball team advanced to the Sectional Final Round with a 68-55 victory over DeSales Friday night at St. Mary' College of Maryland.

R-MC will take on winner of Franklin Marshall and the host Seahawks Saturday at 7:00 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Final Four in Salem next weekend.

R-MC (25-6) was led by 15 points from Erich Pugh.  He was joined in double-digits by Calvin Croskey and Brandon Braxton who each had 12 in the win. Adam Desgain and Danny Jones had nine and eight points, respectively off the bench for R-MC, helping the Jackets reserves to a 23-8 edge over the DU bench.

The Jackets were able to garner a 41-27 edge on the glass, led by Kevin Voelkel's game-high nine boards and eight rebounds by Croskey.

DeSales (24-6) was led by Brian Hunter with a game-high 27 points.  Darnell Braswell added 15 points for the Bulldogs who were held to just 35.3% (18-of-51) from the floor on the night.

Randolph-Macon started off slow, not making a basket for the first 5:40 of the contest, allowing DU to jump out to an early lead.

R-MC was able to rebound from the sluggish start and a three-pointer by Pugh tied the game at 17-17 with just under eight minutes to go in the half.  The Jackets were able to reel off the next five points as well, taking a 22-17 advantage when Pugh knocked down two free-throws with 5:28 to go.

After back-to-back buckets by DeSales cut the R-MC lead to one, the Jackets scored eight of the final 11 points of the first stanza to take a 30-24 lead into the locker room.

The Yellow Jackets were able to open up a nine point lead early in the second half when a Voelkel jumper pushed the score to 35-26.

With the score 42-33, Desgain and Thomas Scheeler drained back-to-back three-pointers to put R-MC up 48-33 with just under 13 minutes to play.

The Bulldogs fought back, cutting their deficit to 48-40 when Hunter converted to attempts from the charity stripe with 9:49.

The Jackets would seal the game with an 8-2 run, capped by a Croskey bucket with 8:12 to go.
