Box Score LEXINGTON, VA - Brandon Braxton had an 11 point, 12 rebound,
double-double for No. 18 Randolph-Macon as the Yellow Jackets
topped home standing Washington & Lee 56-53 in ODAC Men's
Basketball action Monday night.
R-MC (17-4 / 8-4 ODAC) had a hot-shooting first half which saw
them make 14-of-23 (60%) shots from the field, including six
three-pointers.
That offensive output, coupled with a defense that allowed
W&L (13-7 / 5-6 ODAC) to make just 10-of-31 (32.3%) attempts
from the field, propelled the Jackets to a double figure lead that
reached as much as 16 and eventually a 38-24 advantage at the
intermission.
The teams played the first half of the second stanza even,
before a Zac White jumper cut the Yellow Jackets' lead to nine at
48-39 with 10:26 to go in the game.
After Calvin Croskey drained a three-pointer to put R-MC up
51-39, the Generals scored the next nine points, making the score
51-48 on a layup by Hans Harris with 6:10 remaining.
Washington and Lee pulled within one when a J.D. Ey bucket made
the score 51-50. Adam Desgain then responded for the Jackets
with a three-pointer on their ensuing possession, pushing the
Jackets lead to four with 4:19 to play.
The scored stayed that way until with 25 seconds left, White
made a layup, was fouled, but missed the free-throw that was
rebounded by R-MC. Croskey then made a pair of free-throws on
the other end to extend the Randolph-Macon lead to three at
56-53.
On W&L's ensuing possession, Jeremy Adkins missed a
game-tying three pointer that was grabbed by Desgain who was
fouled. Desgain missed the front end of a one-and-one,
giving Adkins another chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but his
attempt fell short.
The Yellow Jackets also got 12 points from Croskey while Desgain
had nine in the win as well. R-MC finished shooting
46.7% for the game, making 21-of-45 shots, including 8-of-19 from
beyond the arc.
The Generals were led by Adkins who had 15 points in a losing
effort. Ben Goetsch also had 13 along with 11 from White.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts
ODAC rival Bridgewater College at 7:00 p.m. in Ashland.
