Box Score SALEM, VA -- Three Yellow Jackets scored in double-figures as
No. 18 Randolph-Macon topped ODAC rival Roanoke 87-54 Wednesday
night in Salem. R-MC improves to 16-4 overall and 7-4 in the
ODAC. RC is now 6-15 and 3-9 in the league.
Braxton finished with a game-high 20 points, while Calvin
Croskey had 16 in the win and Danny Jones had 14 off the
bench. Braxton and Kevin Voelkel led the way on the boards
for R-MC with seven apiece, helping the Jackets 48-23 edge on the
glass.
R-MC jumped out to an early double digit lead through the first
five minutes of the game, taking a 15-4 on a Braxton bucket with
just over 15 minutes remaining.
The Yellow Jackets maintained a double-digit advantage, pushing
its lead to 14 at 36-22 when Croskey drained a three-pointer with
2:34 to go in the half.
Randolph-Macon took a 38-26 edge into the locker room at the
half, came out for the second stanza and promptly extended its lead
to 20 at 51-31 on a three-point play by Adam Desgain with 15:40 to
play in the game.
A long-range jumper by Thomas Scheeler made the score 59-32 with
just over 15 minutes to play. A quick 14-4 run by the Maroons
cut the R-MC lead to 63-44 with just over eight minutes remaining.
A Jones three pointer put R-MC out in front 66-47 and sparked
10-1 run, that was capped by a Croskey trifecta that made the score
73-48 and put the game away for the Yellow Jackets.
The Maroons were led by Melvin Felix and Kwasi Amponsah who both
had eight points in the loss. The R-MC defense held RC
to just 33.3% shooting on the night, allowing just 19 field goals
on 47 attempts.
Due to the impending weekend weather forecast for the entire
Commonwealth of Virginia, the ODAC Men's Basketball game between
Randolph-Macon and Lynchburg College has been moved from Saturday
to Friday at 3:00 p.m. in Ashland.
