Guilford Upends R-MC Men's Hoops 81-65 in ODAC Championship; Jackets Forced to Wait Until Monday Morning to Learn NCAA Tournament Fate

Box Score

SALEM, VA - Second-seeded Guilford used a late second half run to upend fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon 81-65 in the championship game of the 2010 ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament in Salem.

With the win, GC improves to 26-2 and captures the league's automatic to the NCAA Tournament.  R-MC drops to 22-6 overall and will await word to if it will receive on the 19 "at-large" bids to the 61 team-tournament.    The Division III selection show will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday on www.ncaa.com.

R-MC was led by all-tournament team selection Eric Pugh who had a game-high 17 points, while fellow all-tournament team choice Danny Jones chipped in with 13.  Adam Desgain and Brandon Braxton each had 10 points as well for R-MC.

GC was paced by tournament Most Outstanding Player Tyler Sanborn who had 12 points in 12 rebounds in the victory.  T.C. Anderson and Clay Henson had a team-high 15 each, while Rhett Bonner added 13 for the Quakers as well.     Sanborn helped Guilford to a 38-29 edge on the glass.

Randolph-Macon trailed 35-31 at the half, before Pugh came out and scored 11 points in the first 4:17,  giving R-MC a 48-46 lead with a jumper.

Guilford responded with a 17-5 run that was capped off by a Bonner bucket that put the Quakers out in front with 63-53 with just over eight minutes to go in the game.

R-MC battled back, cutting the GC lead to five at  63-58 when Desgain knocked down a three with 5:11 to play, but that would be as close as the Jacket would get as the Quakers would scored the next six points to seal the game.
