Box Score SALEM, VA -- Fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon shot a blistering 59%
in the first half to build an early lead en route to an 84-48
victory over fifth-seeded Hampden-Sydney in the quarterfinals of
the 2010 ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 21-5 overall, while the Tigers
finish the season 13-13.
Randolph-Macon advances to semifinal play where it will take on
top-seed Eastern Mennonite at 6:00 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center.
Randolph-Macon held H-SC to just two field goals during the
first 9:19 of the contest and were able to open up a 21-4
advantage on a layup by Brandon Braxton.
After a Turner King three-pointer made the score 22-9, R-MC
reeled off an 11-0 run capped by a Calvin Croskey three that pushed
the Jackets advantage to 33-9 with 8:12 to go.
Randolph-Macon made 19-of-32 field goals, including six
three pointers and would take a 46-20 advantage into the locker
room at half time.
R-MC opened the second stanza with a 10-2 run, taking a 56-22
lead on a Billy Campion bucket with 16:03 to play.
The Jackets stretched their advantage to as many as 43 during
the second-half as they secured their 21st win of the
year which is the most for R-MC since the 2005-06 season when it
won 22 games.
Danny Jones led R-MC with a team-high 14 points off the bench to
propel the Jackets reserves to a 44-19 advantage over the Tigers
bench. Jordan Brown and Croskey had 12 and 11 points,
respectively in the win.
King led H-SC with 15 points in the loss. The R-MC defense
allowed H-SC to make just 18-of-53 shots from the floor on the
afternoon.
