Box Score

ASHLAND, VA - Hampden-Sydney shot close to 55% for the game as the Tigers knocked off No. 16 Randolph-Macon 66-61 in ODAC Men's Basketball action Wednesday night in Ashland.

Randolph-Macon closes out the regular season at 20-5 overall and 11-5 in the ODAC.   H-SC improves their record to 13-11 and 8-7 in league play.   The win marks the first victory for H-SC over R-MC in Crenshaw Gym since January 10, 2001.

The Yellow Jackets got a team-high 19 points from Danny Jones and 11 points from Eric Pugh.   Kevin Voelkel led R-MC with seven rebounds on the night.     R-MC was 20-of-56 (35.7%) from the field, 8-of-21 from the three point line.

The Tigers were paced by a game-high 25 points from Turner King.  Jonathan Mudd, who made 10-of-12 from the foul line, finished with 18 points, while Harrison George added 10 in the win.  H-SC was 23-of-42 from the field and converted 17-of-23 from the charity stripe.

A first-half that saw eight ties and 15 lead changes, ended with H-SC up 34-31 behind 11 points from King, while Jones dropped in 12 for the Jackets.

R-MC scored the first eight points of the second-half and took a 39-34 lead when Pugh drained a three-pointer with just 18 minutes to go.

The Tigers responded with an 8-0 run of their own, taking a 42-39 lead on a free-throw by Mudd with just over 15 minutes to play in the contest.

An Adam Desgain three-pointer on R-MC's ensuing possession tied the game at 42-42 before a layup by Harrison with 13:31 put H-SC up for good at 44-42.

Randolph-Macon stayed close, not only allowing the Hampden-Sydney's lead reach more than six.  The Yellow Jackets had a chance to tie the game, but a Jones layup fell short and Harrison converted a pair of free throws on the other end to give H-SC win.

The Yellow Jackets will be off until the quarterfinals of the 2010 ODAC Tournament next Friday at a time and against an opponent to be determined.
