18 points from Calvin Croskey, No. 17 Randolph-Macon knocked off
ODAC rival Bridgewater 77-69 Wednesday night in men's basketball
action. R-MC is now 18-4 overall and 9-4 in league
play. BC falls to 9-11 and 6-7 in the ODAC.
Croskey was joined in double-digits
by Brandon Braxton who had 16 points and Eric Pugh with
10. Kevin Voelkel grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds,
while Croskey nabbed eight caroms and Thomas Scheeler grabbed six,
to help R-MC to a 41-26 edge on the glass. The Jackets shot
27-of-55 from the field for a 49.1% clip for the evening.
BC was led by Dominic Trawick's
game-high 28 points. Jake Johnson added 16 for BC, while
Cody Giffith had 10 off the bench. Bridgewater
shot 45% for the game, making 27-of-60 shots from the floor.
With BC up 24-23 with six minutes
remaining in the first-half, R-MC went on a 19-1 run over the next
five and a half minutes, taking at 42-25 lead on a Braxton
bucket.
A Trawick three-pointer with
just over a minute to go and a Johnson layup with 16
seconds remaining in the first stanza, sent the teams to the locker
room with Randolph-Macon up 45-33.
Back-to-back buckets by BC to start
the second-half cut the R-MC lead to 45-37, before R-MC went on a
9-1 run, capped by a Scheeler three-pointer that made the score
54-38 with 13:38 to go in the game.
BC chipped away and a pair of
free-throws by Trawick with just over five minutes to go in the
game made the score 64-58. That would be as close as the
Eagles would get as R-MC reeled off 11 of the next 14 points to
seal the win.
Randolph-Macon will return to
action on Saturday when it travels to No. 5 Virginia Wesleyan for a
2:00 p.m. ODAC game.
