Box Score CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN – The Randolph-Macon Men's Basketball Team fashioned four players in double figures and used a big run to close out the first half en route to a 71-47 victory over UW-La Crosse in the first-round of the Peter Thorn Invitational at Wabash College.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 4-0 on the season and will take on Otterbein or the host Little Giants at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in the tournament championship.
Reigning ODAC Player of the Week Danny Jones led the way off the bench for the Jackets with 13 points on the night, while pulling down 11 rebounds for a double-double. Brandon Braxton added 12 points in the win, while Eric Pugh and Jordan Brown had 11 and 10 points, respectively for R-MC.
The Jackets held a 41-25 advantage on the glass and made 25-of52 to shoot 48.1% from the floor.
UW-La Crosse got a game-high 22 points from Tony Mane, while Luke Tweed added eight points in a losing effort.
With the game tied at 14-14 and just over 10 minutes to go in the first half, R-MC went on what proved to be a 25-5 run to end the first stanza, with a Calvin Croskey jumper with 38 seconds to go, sending the Jackets to the locker room up 39-20.
A Jones bucket with just under 16 minutes to play put R-MC up by 21 at 43-22. UW-La Crosse would fight back, cutting the Jackets lead to 13 points with eight minutes to play in the game on an Eric Gilberston jumper.
R-MC would put the game away following Gilbertson's basket, going on a 12-2 run that was capped by a Croskey lay in, making the score 67-42 with 2:32 to play in the game.
