NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The Randolph-Macon volleyball team saw its increidble run in the NCAA Tournament come to end Sunday with a 3-2 loss to No. 5 Christopher Newport in the championship match of the Newport News Regional.

CNU (38-2) out lasted R-MC (28-7) 20-25, 31-29, 15-25, 25-22 and 16-14 to advance to the eight team championship round in St. Louis next weekend.

The two wins in the tournament are the first NCAA victories in the 16 year of the program and give R-MC 27 for the season which ties a school record.

Mallory Carter led R-MC on Sunday with 23 kills and 22 digs defensivley. All-Tournament selection Jessica Sears had 21 kills and 21 digs, while fellow all-tournament team choice Raena Winton had 18 kills in her final match in a Yellow Jacket uniform.

Setters Sam Block and Courtney Anderson each had 32 assists on the afternoon, while Block chipped in with 13 digs defensivley for R-MC. Marli Dabareiner had 23 digs, while Tori Puryear had eight assist blocks as well.
