Box Score R-MC keeper Nicole Woodworth
made a game high 15 saves but Mary Washington scored three first
half goals to get past Randolph-Macon Field Hockey (12-6 / 6-1
ODAC) 4-2 in Ashland on Wednesday.
Morgan Jones gave the Eagles an early 1-0 advantage when she
scored unassisted in the second minute.
Mary Washington extended the lead to 3-0 after goals by Kaitlyn
Ripley and Morgan Jones. Both were assisted by MacKenzie Sloan.
The Yellow Jackets cut the lead to 3-1 in the 26th
minute when reigning ODAC Player of the Week Mary McCarthy netted
her 16th goal of the season.
UMW pushed their lead to 4-1 on a goal from Caitlin Baker in the
68th minute.
Freshman attacker Mikalea Rumley
pulled the Jackets within two when she scored unassisted in the
68th minute.
The Eagles held on for the 4-2 despite 15 saves from sophomore
goalie Nicole Woodworth. UMW keeper Chrissy Bowdren made ten
stops.
Mary Washington outshot Randolph-Macon 27-18 and held a 14-7
advantage in penalty corners.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action Wednesday, November
3rd when they host the ODAC Field Hockey Tournament
Semi-Finals. R-MC will face the winner of the Virginia
Wesleyan/Washington and Lee game.
