Box Score ASHLAND, VA - Ben Goetsch led three Generals in double
figures as Washington and Lee topped No. 9 Randolph-Macon 65-57
Wednesday night in ODAC Men's Basketball action in Ashland.
R-MC (15-3/6-3 ODAC) was led by Jordan Brown who had 17 points,
while Danny Jones had 14 off the bench and Calvin Croskey had 11 in
a losing effort. Kevin Voelkel had nine rebounds to help the
Yellow Jackets to a 39-29 edge on the glass. Randolph-Macon
shot 37.7% for the game, but were just 1-of-23 from behind the
three-point arc.
Washington and Lee (11-7/3-5 ODAC) was paced by Goetsch's
17 points, while fellow starters Jeremy Adkins and Zac White had 14
and 10 points, respectively in the win.
The Generals shot a blistering 66.7% from the floor in the first
half, making 16-of-24 shots from the floor to propel themselves to
a 41-30 lead at the break.
R-MC chipped away at the start of the second-half and with the
score 45-37, an Adam Desgain jumper sparked what proved to be a
10-2 run for the Jackets that was capped by a pair of free-throws
by Brown that tied the game at 47-47 with just over eight minutes
to go in the game.
That would be as close as the Jackets would get as the Generals
secured its first win in Ashland since 1959 and just its ninth
win over the Jackets in the two programs 73 meetings with a 14-6
run over the next six minutes of play.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts
No. 2 Guilford at 4:00 p.m.
