Box Score ASHLAND, VA -- No. 1
Randolph-Macon shot 61% from the floor and had four players in
double figures as the Yellow Jackets topped visiting Emory &
Henry 94-73 Saturday afternoon in ODAC Men's Basketball action.
Brandon Braxton had a career-high
26 points, 17 of which came in the second-half to help R-MC improve
its record to 14-1 overall and 5-1 in the league. Danny
Jones came off the bench to add 14 points, while the backcourt
tandem of Calvin Croskey and Eric Pugh had 12 and 10 points,
respectively.
The Yellow Jackets made 36-of-59
attempts on the afternoon and had 26 assists in the contest as
well, led by Jordan Brown and Pugh who each had five helpers.
E&H (2-14 / 0-7 ODAC) was led
by Jordan Short who had 12 points, Malcolm had 10 in a losing
effort. The Wasps connected on 11 three-pointers and shot 25-of-59
(42.4%) from the field.
The Wasps came out firing and took
a 20-15 lead when Short made a three pointer with 11:08 to go in
the first stanza. R-MC fought back, going a 15-4 run,
pushing their advantage to 30-24 on a Croskey trifecta with just
under five minutes to go.
Another Croskey three would give
R-MC a 41-30 lead in the closing minutes before a Michael
Owens bucket sent the teams to locker room with the score
41-32 in favor for the Jackets.
R-MC came out of the locker room
and promptly went on a 24-7 run over the first seven minutes of the
second half, taking a 65-39 lead when Brown converted a free-throw.
The Wasps chipped away, cutting the
Jackets lead to 74-58 on a layup by Green, but that would be as
close as E&H would get as a dunk by Braxton on R-MC's ensuing
possession sparked an 8-0 run and helped seal the win for the
Jackets.
Randolph-Macon will return to
action on Wednesday when it hosts No. 8 Virginia Wesleyan at 7:00
p.m. in Ashland.
