Hauser and Nelms Record Doubles as R-MC Defeats Averett 5-1 in Season Opener

ASHLAND, VA-- Freshmen Erin Hauser and Amanda Nelms recorded a goal and an assist each in their college debut as Randolph-Macon defeated Averett 5-1.

The Yellow Jackets struck first in the thirteenth minute on an unassisted goal from Amanda Nelms. Six minutes later, sister Angela Nelms netted a Hauser pass to give R-MC a 2-0 lead. Hauser would score herself in the twenty-eighth minute on a pass from Amanda Nelms.

With less than a minute left in the first half, Hillary Wood scored a goal for Averett leaving the halftime score 3-1.

MaryCarol Davis continued the Yellow Jacket attack when she netted a penalty kick in the seventieth minute.

Elyse Cooper scored the final goal of the game unassisted in the eighty-third minute.

R-MC outshot Averett 27-3 and keeper China Bradley collected one save.

The Yellow Jackets will play their home opener Saturday, September 5^th, at noon against North Carolina Wesleyan.
