Randolph-Macon Splits Softball Doubleheader with
Stevenson Tuesday
(Game One
Box Score)
(Game Two
Box Score)
Ashland, Va. - Randolph-Macon defeated Stevenson 9-1 in
game one of Tuesday's doubleheader, but saw its hopes of a sweep
fade when the Mustangs scored two runs in the sixth inning of game
two to hand the Yellow Jackets a 5-2 loss. Megan Shepherd led the
offensive attack in game one as she batted 3-for-3 with three RBIs
and four runs. Pitcher Katie Raulerson improved her record to 3-0,
yielding just two hits and one run in five innings of work.
When Stevenson and Randolph-Macon entered the bottom of the
fifth inning of the first game, both teams found themselves in a
close 3-1 contest. However, the Yellow Jackets posted a trio of
runs in each of the final two innings to seal the eight-run
victory. In addition to Shepherd's performance, leadoff hitter
Morgan Greene hit 2-for-3, scored two runs, drove in another, and
stole a base. First baseman Laura Bauer hit a double and single in
three at-bats, and shortstop Shannon Long slugged two doubles in
three trips to the plate. Raulerson struck out two Mustang batters
and reliever Courtney Brooks shut out Stevenson in the seventh
inning to seal the win.
After Stevenson tallied a combined three runs in the second and
third innings of game two, R-MC registered one run in both the
third and fourth innings to make the score 3-2. However, the Yellow
Jackets could not muster any significant offensive after the fourth
inning. Stevenson, meanwhile, sent two Mustangs across the plate in
the sixth inning to secure the 5-2 victory. Stevenson's Julianne
Roper earned the complete-game victory, while R-MC's Christi Wise
picked up the loss. Wise only allowed two earned runs in seven
innings, but the Yellow Jackets committed four errors behind the
junior southpaw.
R-MC moves to 4-4, while Stevenson's record now stands at 3-5.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday when they host
Sweet Briar College for a doubleheader at 3 PM.
