R-MC Men's Basketball Turns Back Washington and Lee

ASHLAND, VA - Randolph-Macon won its third straight game and its
fifth in its last six contests with a 74-66 ODAC home win over
Washington and Lee Monday night.
R-MC, which now stands at 17-5 overall and 11-2 in the league,
shot 55% on the night making, 22-of-40 shots from the field in the
win. The Jackets also benefited from 28 makes on 42 attempts from
the charity stripe.
Justin Short led the squad with 21 points. Short made 4-of-9
shots and went 13-of-17 from the line. Danny Jones and Eric Pugh
came off the bench to score 13 and 10 points, respectively. The
R-MC reserves as a whole outscored the W&L bench 36-14. Jones,
Jordan Brown and Boris Varela all had six rebounds for R-MC.
W&L (12-9 / 5-7 ODAC) was held to 36.7% shooting on the
night, including just four makes in 17 attempts from three-point
territory. Isaiah Goodman and Ben Goetsch each tallied 15 points in
the loss, while Ben Heller chipped in with 11 points. Heller posted
a double-double by grabbing a game-high 11 boards as well.
Randolph-Macon held a slim 29-27 lead after the first-half of
play and it continued to be a tight contest in the opening minutes
of the second stanza before the Jackets gained some breathing room
with a 12-4 run that was capped off by a three-point play by Short,
whose free-throw made the score 43-33 with 12:33 to play.
After a Goetsch layup cut the R-MC lead to 47-40 with 9:55 to
play, R-MC scored 10 of the next 13 points and a bucket by Brown
pushed the lead back up to 14 at 57-43 with 7:44 remaining.
The basket by Brown proved to be the last by the Yellow Jackets
as W&L began fouling early. The Jackets sealed the win by
knocking down 17-of-29 shots from the line down the stretch.
Randolph-Macon continues its four games in a seven day stretch
when it travels to Bridgewater for a 7:00 p.m. ODAC game on
Wednesday.
