R-MC Men's Hoops Holds on for a 62-58 Win at
Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, VA - Justin Short and Brandon Braxton
each scored 13 points as Randolph-Macon held off a late rally by
Lynchburg and secured a 62-58 ODAC win on Saturday.
R-MC (16-5 / 10-2 ODAC) shot 23-of-44 (53%) for
the afternoon, but were plagued by 25 turnovers that led to 26
Hornet points. The Yellow Jackets connected on seven three pointers
and out rebounded LC 31-27. Jordan Brown led the team with six
boards to go along with his eight points, while Boris Varela had
eight points and five rebounds in the win.
LC (3-18 / 1-11 ODAC) got a game-high 18 points
from Steven Echols who connected on 9-of-18 shots from the field.
The Hornets shot 42.4% as a team, making 25-of-59 shots on the
afternoon.
With R-MC up by seven with 8:35 to play in the
game, LC scored nine of the next 11 points, tying the game at 52-52
on a layup by Eric Burnett with 5:15 to go in the contest.
Back-to-back three pointers by Eric Pugh and
Short put the Jackets out in front 58-52 with 3:19 left on the
clock. The two teams then exchanged baskets on their respective
possessions before Echols made a layup, then caused a steal on the
defensive end and then made a layup on the offensive side of the
court to pull LC back within two at 60-58 with 1:46 to go.
Echols had a shot at pulling LC ahead with 14
seconds left, when he missed a three-pointer, got his own rebound
but then committed an offensive foul, giving R-MC possession and
forcing the Hornets to foul. Danny Jones knocked down both attempts
at the charity stripe with four ticks on the clock to seal the win
for the Jackets.
Randolph-Macon will return to action on Monday
when it hosts Washington & Lee at 7:00 p.m. in Ashland.
