Randolph-Macon topped Emory & Henry 85-60 in ODAC Men's Hoops
action Saturday. R-MC is now 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the
league. E&H drops to 1-6 and 0-2 in the ODAC.
Carlson was joined in double figures by Brandon Braxton who had
18 points and Jordan Brown who had 10. Braxton and Kevin Voelkel
each had nine rebounds to help Randolph-Macon 59-32 advantage on
the glass.
R-MC started strong in the first-half, taking a 17-6 lead when
Braxton hit a layup with 10:46 to go in the first-stanza.
E&H fought back, cutting the R-MC lead to 29-27 at halftime
after Jordan Short made three free-throws with 40 seconds to go.
The Wasps came out and made the first bucket of the second half
to tie the score at 29 and the game remained close until
Randolph-Macon, which was leading 40-35 with 14:26 to go in the
game, went on a 21-5 run over the next 5:24, with Carlson capping
run with a four-point play to make the score 61-40.
The Yellow Jackets shot 48% in the second half, including
7-of-12 from behind the arc, en route to a 56 point second
frame. The R-MC defense allowed just 11 made field goals all
day, holding the Wasps to 29% shooting from the floor, including
just 6-of-23 shooting from three-point land.
Randolph-Macon will be off for exams next week, and will return
to action on December 13th when it hosts the Briggs
Elliott Tournament. R-MC will face Alvernia at 6:00 p.m. on
the 14th, while Wooster and NC Wesleyan will open the
tourney at 4:00 p.m. The consolation game is slated for 5:00
p.m. on the 12th with the championship at 7:00p.m.
