Box Score ASHLAND, VA -- Backed by three, double-digit scorers and a
stifling defense, No. 19 Randolph-Macon opened its home slate of
games on Sunday with a 87-63 victory over No. 7 DeSales. The
Yellow Jackets improve to 4-0, while the Bulldogs drop to 3-2 on
the young season.
R-MC was paced by a career-high 21 points from Danny Jones, who
knocked down 7-of-10 shots on the day. Adam Desgain also
reached a career high with 18 and dished out six assists, while
Jordan Brown had 17 points in the win as well. Desgain
and Jones led the Jackets reserves, who outscored the DU bench by a
51-8 margin.
The Jackets dominated on the glass, out rebounding DU by a 42-26
margin. Brandon Braxton led the charge with a game-high
nine boards. The Randolph-Macon defense allowed DeSales to make
just 20-of-57 (35.1%) shots on the afternoon, including just
6-of-26 (23.1%) makes from beyond the three-point arc.
R-MC shot 51.7% in the first half and surrendered just six field
goals to the Bulldogs to take a 38-18 lead into the locker room
halftime. The Jackets continued to build on their lead in the
second stanza, pulling ahead by 24 at 71-47 when Brown knocked down
a three-pointer with 8:15 to go in the game.
Brian Hunter and Darnell Braswell who both had a team-high 21
points in the loss led DeSales. Brasswell also grabbed a
team-best seven boards.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action Wednesday night when it
opens up ODAC play against Randolph at home. Tip-off is
slated for 7:00 p.m.
