R-MC Gets Past Bridgewater 2-1 to Advance to ODAC
Semi-Finals
ASHLAND, VA-Nicole Klee's unassisted goal in
the second half proved to be the game winner for Randolph-Macon
Field Hockey as they downed Bridgewater 2-1 in Ashland Saturday.
With the win, R-MC advances to the ODAC Semi-Finals where they take
on number one seed Lynchburg.
The Yellow Jackets struck first when Meredith Young (Bassett,
VA/ Carlisle School) scored on a pass from Kendall Lam (Virginia
Beach, VA/ Kellam) in the 23rd minute.
Bridgewater capitalized on a penalty corner after Christina
Pybus' (Manassas, VA/ Forest Park) pass found Kelli Worst (Virginia
Beach, VA/ Kellam) for a goal.
Nicole Klee (Suffolk, VA/ Lakeland) broke away from the
Eagles' defense and beat the keeper to put the Yellow Jackets up
2-1 with just under 13 minutes to go.
Keeper Nicole Woodworth (Culpeper, VA/ Eastern View) and the
R-MC defense kept BC scoreless for the remainder of the contest to
hold on to the 2-1 quarterfinal victory.
Woodworth stopped four shots in the win while Eagles' keeper
Elizabeth Sullivan (Virginia Beach, VA/ Kellam) collected 10 saves
in the loss.
Randolph-Macon held a 21-11 advantage in shots and a 16-6 edge
in penalty corners.
Despite a 0-8 start, R-MC has rallied to secure their first
winning season since 2005 with an 11-9 overall record.
Randolph-Macon Field Hockey travels to Lynchburg College
Tuesday, November 3rd, for the ODAC tournament semi-finals. Game
time is set for 6:00 p.m.
