ASHLAND, VA - Randolph-Macon rushed
for 262 yards and posted its first shutout since 1999 as the Yellow
Jackets topped Emory & Henry 19-0 in Ashland Saturday
afternoon.
The win improves R-MC's record to
5-2 overall and 3-0 in the ODAC, while the E&H drops to 4-2 and
0-2 in the league.
Thaddeus Scruggs led the offensive
attack for the Jackets with a career-high 42 carries for a career
best 235 yards on the ground. Austin Faulkner was an efficient
12-of-20 for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The R-MC defense held Emory &
Henry to just 195 yards of total offense and bottled up ODAC
leading rusher Caleb Jennings for just 48 yards on 14 carries.
Christian Stahl, Gamal Alwan, Trey Haddon and Billy Knarr all had
six tackles on the day for the Yellow Jackets.
R-MC got the opening kickoff and
promptly drove 52 yards on 12 plays, capping the drive with a
10-yard play action pass from Faulkner to Earl Peoples.
The Jackets doubled their lead to
13-0 with 8:20 to go in the first half when Faulkner found Steve
Mathews for a three-yard scoring strike.
That proved to be all the R-MC
defense needed as it held Emory & Henry in check, allowing the
Wasps to convert just 7-of-15 chances on third down and 0-for-4 on
fourth down.
R-MC held onto the ball for 18:30 in the second half, including
10:00 in the final quarter to preserve the win. The Jackets held a
35:30 to 24:30 advantage in time of possession. Josh Strom tacked
on a pair of field goals in the second-half to account for the
final score of 19-0.
Randolph-Macon will enjoy a bye week before returning to action on
October 31st at Guilford. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
