Short and Pugh Send R-MC Past Bridgewater 78-61 in ODAC

ASHLAND, VA - The Randolph-Macon men's basketball team
secured its seventh straight win on Monday night with a 78-61 ODAC
win over visiting Bridgewater College.
Randolph-Macon, which is receiving votes in the latest
D3hoops.com poll, improves to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the
league. Bridgewater falls to 6-6 and 2-2 in the league.
The backcourt tandem of Justin Short who had 22
points and Eric Pugh who connected for a career-high 13 points off
the bench led R-MC to the victory. Short made 8-of-13 shots on the
night, dished out five assists and grabbed six rebounds on an
evening where he was honored prior to the game for becoming a
member of R-MC's 1,000 career point club.
The Yellow Jackets made eight of their first nine shots from the
field, taking a 17-4 lead on a bucket by Short with 13:35 to go in
the first-half. R-MC never trailed in the game and took a 41-26
advantage into the locker room at halftime.
BC held R-MC to just four points over the first seven minutes of
the second-half and were able to trim the deficit to nine when
Michael Oblitey made a pair of free-throws, making the score
45-36.
Randolph-Macon responded with a 16-6 run, opening up a 61-42 lead
on a Short jumper with just over eight minutes to go in the contest
to seal the win.
R-MC held BC to 35% shooting on the night, allowing just 21 made
field goals on 60 attempts, a 3-of-19 mark from the three-point
line, including forcing 13 consecutive misses from beyond the arc
to start the game. The Yellow Jackets made 28-of-51 field goals,
including 7-of-15 makes from three-point land.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts
archrival Hampden-Sydney at 7:00 p.m. in Ashland. The
Randolph-Macon College Athletic Department announced that tickets
will go on sale Tuesday morning. Tickets are 10 dollars and can be
purchased at the main athletics office in Crenshaw Gymnasium
between 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1p.m. - 4 p.m. Tickets are general
admission and will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
