R-MC Men's Hoops Earns 76-64 Non-Conference Win at

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Justin Short scored 19 of his game-high 21
points in the second-half as Randolph-Macon earned a hard fought
76-64 non-conference road win at Christopher Newport University on
Saturday night.
Boris Varela and Jordan Brown each had 13 points in the win,
while Varela registered a double-double by clearing the glass on a
game-high 11 occasions. Brown also had eight boards and four blocks
in the ninth straight victory for the Jackets who now stand at 10-3
on the season.
CNU (7-6) got 17 points from Michael Green and Mark Blasingame,
while Davon Barton had 12 points in a losing effort for the
Captains.
The Yellow Jackets held a slim 38-32 lead at the break after
getting all 13 points from Varela in the first 20 minutes of play.
The game remained tight in the early stages of the second-half
before R-MC was able to go on a 9-0 run midway thorough, opening up
a 61-49 advantage with 6:13 to play after a pair of free-throws
from Short.
CNU was able to respond with a 10-1 run of its own over the next
2:12 , cutting the Jackets lead to 62-59 on a bucket by Green.
Randolph-Macon then put the game away, scoring 14 of the final
20 points down the stretch with 10 coming from Short and making
11-of-12 shots from the charity stripe as a team.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts
Eastern Mennonite at 7:00 p.m. in Crenshaw Gym.
