ASHLAND, VA - Behind 31 points from Justin Short, Randolph-Macon
topped Emory & Henry 111-99 Saturday afternoon in ODAC Men's
Basketball action in Ashland.
Short led four Yellow Jackets (3-3 / 2-0 ODAC) in double-figures
as well has having a team best eight rebounds and three assists in
34 minutes of action. Jordan Brown netted 17 points, five rebounds
and five assists. Danny Jones and Billy Campion came off the bench
to add 13 points each in the win. R-MC shot 54.5%, making 42 field
goal attempts.
E&H (5-4 / 0-2 ODAC) was paced by Camillo Weinz who had six
three pointers en route to a team-best 24 points. Kyle Huckins
added 23 points, while Josh Brown and JD Dyson had 14 and 10
tallies, respectively for the Wasps. Emory & Henry shot 50.0%
for the game, converting 36-of-72 field goals.
A Boris Varela three-pointer with under a minute remaining in
the first-half, closed out a back-and-forth first 20 minutes and
sent R-MC to the locker room with a 46-42 advantage.
The game remained close in the start of the second-half before
R-MC went on a 16-4 midway through, upping its lead to 84-67 on a
Danny Jones bucket with 8:41 to play.
The Wasps responded with an 11-3 run of their own over the next
three minutes, cutting the R-MC lead to 87-78 on a three pointer by
Brown.
R-MC put the game away with a 10-1 run, that was capped off by a
layup from Brown.
R-MC will be on hiatus until next Sunday when it opens up the
2008 Briggs Elliott December Classic at home. The Yellow Jackets
will take on Piedmont College at 4:00 p.m. in the tournament's
first game.
