Head Coach Ray Hedrick has announced the addition of Kevin Mooney on staff as the Director of Player Development in October 2024.

Mooney will use his background in motor preference and athletic movement to help optimize each player's performance, reduce the risk of injury, and improve their physical and mental preparation.

For the past three years, Mooney served as Director of Instruction at The Baseball Zone in Gaithersburg, Md. His work involved the construction and scheduling of clinics, camps, and private sessions for both baseball and softball players ranging from elementary school to college. Mooney created individual programs for offense, defense, and strength and conditioning. He was the director of Churchill High School's offseason development for pitchers, hitters, catchers, and fielders.

Mooney was an assistant coach for the past two years at Georgetown Preparatory School in Rockville, Md. He led offseason conditioning, practices, and individual work. He created practice plans, scouting reports, and postgame analysis. Mooney directed pregame offensive preparation as well as starting pitchers and outfielders.

During this past summer, Mooney was assistant coach of the 2025 Phillies Scout Team in Boca Raton, Fla. In the winter of 2024, he was movement specialist for the New Balance Future Stars in Philadelphia, Pa. Mooney was head coach of the 2024 Evoshield Canes North Prospects in Fredericksburg, Va., during the summer of 2022. He earned Motor Preferences, Level One Certification through KIME Performance in Richmond, Va., in 2023.

Mooney was a four-year member of the Yellow Jacket baseball program. He recorded a career batting average of .318 with on-base percentage of .435 and slugging percentage of .506. He recorded 28 RBI in 27 games as a senior with six doubles, two triples and two home runs. Mooney was named to the ODAC All-Tournament Team in 2019 after going 6 for 13 with three doubles, one homer, two runs and four RBI in four games in the second round.

A Dean's List student, Mooney earned Bachelor of Science degrees in both Criminology and Sociology in 2021. During his collegiate career, he was a Henrico Police intern, assisted with the Ashland Circles Volunteer Program and participated in the Buddy Program at Gandy Elementary School in Ashland.
