In 2009, his Yellow Jackets brokenew ground yet again, marching their way into the top 25 nationalrankings for the first time in over a decade. In addition, theyalso had the #1 upset win in all of Division III according toLaxpower.com, beating #15 ranked Denison University. At the end ofthe season, the Jackets made their second consecutive appearance inthe ODAC tournament. It was just the second time the Jackets havemade it to the postseason tournament in school history, both timesunder Plantholt.
In 2008, the team not only had itsbest record in eight years, but the Yellow Jackets broke the moldwith the program's first appearance in the ODAC tournament. Duringhis short tenure, he has mentored six All-ODAC selections and twoAcademic All-Americans.
Prior to coming to Randolph-Macon,Plantholt was an assistant coach at his alma mater, GettysburgCollege. While at Gettysburg, Plantholt was the team's defensivecoordinator leading them to a #4 (2004) and #1 (2006) ranking inthe nation for scoring defense. This success resulted in threetrips to the NCAA quarterfinals (2004, 2005, and 2006). In additionto his defensive duties, he served as the recruiting coordinatorand face-off coach.
Plantholt broke into the coachingranks as an assistant at Muhlenberg College from September of 2001until May of 2002. During his year in the Mules' program, Plantholtserved as the recruiting coordinator, working to put together theinstitution's inaugural team.
As a player, Plantholt was athree-time first-team All-Centennial Conference choice, a two-timeAll-American and the 2001 USILA Division III Defenseman of theYear. The Cockeysville, Md., native helped the Bullets win fourconsecutive conference titles and, as a team captain in 2001,guided Gettysburg to its first-ever berth in the NCAA championshipgame.
Plantholt, who resides in Ashland,received his Master Degree in Business Administration from MountSt. Mary's University in May 2007.
