Randolph-Macon College and Head Coach J.B. Sheridan have announced the hiring of Shane Koppens as an assistant coach for the Yellow Jackets men's lacrosse program. Koppens makes his way to RMC from Louisiana State University where he was the head coach and program director for the Tigers.
"I couldn't be more excited to join Coach Sheridan and the men's lacrosse team here at Randolph-Macon College. Being surrounded by the culture of our program, the Yellow Jacket brand is one I take pride in representing, on and off the field," said Koppens.
"Our players and coaching staff are all in and coming into a working environment every day when everyone is on the same page, with the same mission at hand – it's a great feeling. Thank you to the athletic department led by Jeff Burns, and Head Coach J.B Sheridan for giving me this amazing opportunity. I am eager to help Yellow Jacket Lacrosse reach new heights!"
While with the Tigers, he led LSU to the Lone Star Alliance conference championship in 2019 and 2021. He originally started with the program as their offensive coordinator in 2017.
During his collegiate career Koppens was two-time All-American First Team selection at Loyola University in Baltimore. He was a team captain for the Greyhounds that earned multiple All-ECAC honors and was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year.
The decorated attacker went on to play professionally with the Denver Outlaws in the MLL after he was the 21st overall pick in 2009.
