Michael Kornegay

Michael Kornegay completed his third season as an assistant coach at RMC in 2023. He worked with the wide receivers and coordinated the passing game for the second year after mentoring the tight ends in his first season.

The Yellow Jackets won their first 13 games in 2023, a program record for victories in a season, and reached the semifinals of the NCAA Championship. RMC hosted three of its four NCAA Playoff contests, including a dominant 46-0 triumph over No. 19 Ithaca in the second round and hit the road for a thrilling 39-36 victory at No. 7 Johns Hopkins in the third round. The Yellow Jackets won the ODAC title with a 7-0 conference mark. RMC has captured 14 ODAC championships, the most in conference history. The Yellow Jackets were No. 6 in the final AFCA poll.

RMC is one of four programs in NCAA Division III with nine or more wins in each of the past five full seasons (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023). The Yellow Jackets have a 37-3 ODAC record since 2018 (.925). RMC owns a 38-3 record since 2020 (.923) and has the top winning percentage of all college programs at all levels in Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland since 2018 (.875).

Over the past eight seasons, the Yellow Jackets are 72-13 (.847) overall and 47-6 (.887) in conference contests. RMC has won five ODAC championships in the past eight seasons.

RMC had a record-setting season in 2022. The Yellow Jackets went 10-0 during the regular season, the first team in program history to reach double figures in wins. RMC went 7-0 in conference play to claim its 13th ODAC championship, the most in league history. The Yellow Jackets won 38-17 at Hampden-Sydney in the regular-season finale for RMC's ninth straight win over the Tigers. The Yellow Jackets hosted SUNY Cortland in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs and rallied for a 35-28 victory for the 11th win of the season. RMC would fall 39-32 at Delaware Valley in the second round of the NCAA Playoffs. The Yellow Jackets were No. 13 in the final AFCA poll and No. 16 in the final D3football.com Top 25.

RMC is one of six programs in NCAA Division III with nine or more wins in each of the past four full seasons (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022). The Yellow Jackets have a 30-3 ODAC record since 2018 (.909). RMC owns a 25-2 record since 2020 (.926) and has the top winning percentage of all college programs at all levels in Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland since 2018 (.860).

In the fall of 2021, the Yellow Jackets went 9-1 overall and 5-1 in the ODAC. RMC tied for the top spot in the conference standings. The Yellow Jackets were ranked No. 20 in the final AFCA Coaches' Poll and No. 23 in the final D3football.com Top 25.

From 2016-21, Kornegay was an assistant football coach at Montclair High School in New Jersey.  He was passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. He helped MHS win a state championship in NJSIAA North 1 Group 4.

Kornegay also was a track and field coach at MHS. He was hurdles and jumps coach for both the boys' and girls' team.  Kornegay helped MHS claim seven county championships, six league championships, three county relay championships and multiple first-place finishers at the county and state level.

From 2016-21, Kornegay also worked as a paraprofessional at Westbridge Academy. He was a long-term substiture teacher.

Korgenay earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Gettysburg College in 2016. He was a defensive back for the Bullets.
