ASHLAND, Va. – Carroll LaHaye, Randolph-Macon College's former women's basketball coach, has been announced as one of eleven future inductees into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame.

LaHaye was a three-sport standout at Medomak Valley High School, where she played a key role in the school's success. She played on both the basketball and volleyball teams while at the University of Maine at Machias, where she earned a bachelor's degree. Her volunteer coaching career at Randolph-Macon College began after she relocated to Virginia. LaHaye would be promoted to a full-time head coach within two years. Her 38 seasons as head coach were marked by an outstanding record of 647 victories and 346 defeats. She led the Lemon and Black to 12 trips to the NCAA Tournament and a 2005 appearance in the Division III National Championship game under her belt, LaHaye has more victories than any other coach in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference history, regardless of gender. LaHaye was most recently inducted into the first ever ODAC Hall of Fame last year.

"Not in my wildest imagination as a little girl playing basketball with my brother and his friends at the Warren Town Hall would I have known that my athletic path through Medomak Valley High School and the University of Maine-Machias to the opportunity to coach 3-sports at Randolph-Macon College in the early years of women's athletics and culminating in the prestigious position of Head Coach of Women's Basketball for 38-yrs to now being selected for induction into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame is just profound!", says LaHaye.

LaHaye also was the head coach for the women's lacrosse and women's soccer in her time in Ashland.

The induction will be held on September 27, at 2 p.m., at the University of Southern Maine's Hannaford Hall in Portland.

Joining Coach LaHaye in the Maine Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026 will be Al Bean, Mike Brown, Brian Butterfield, Gabe Hoffman-Johnson, David Hughes, Liz Leddy, Mike McDevitt, Bob Morse, Rachel Schneider Smith and Christina Strong.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 and is a nonprofit organization dedicated to recognizing and honoring individuals and teams who have made significant contributions to Maine's sports heritage.
