How it Happened
- Once Allison Lach (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) opened the scoring with a kill, RMC went on an 8-3 run which included two kills each from Olivia Leonard (Richmond, Va./The New Community School) and Olivia Roark (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day School), plus a block between the two. The home squad maintained its lead until it paced 15-8 at the media timeout, as Aiden Jolly (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) and Sydney Wade (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) assisted two separate Yellow Jackets for kills. Hollins responded with a 6-0 run out of the break on some long rallies, forcing RMC into a timeout. The visitors tacked on three more to earn a 16-15 lead and went on to force another timeout from the hosts with RMC trailing 20-21. Mia Goode (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) used a kill and Lach ripped two to force back-to-back Hollins timeouts, with an ace from Roark pushing the Lemon and Black to a 25-22 set one win.
- The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 4-1 lead on aces from Jolly and Lach. Hollins then used its first timeout of the set while trailing 3-7, thanks to kills from Roark and Ella Courtney (Arlington, Va./Wakefield). Two kills and an ace from Hollins put it back within two but Courtney and Leonard countered with kills to end the momentum and push their team to lead 15-11 at the break. While RMC ballooned its lead to 17-12, it then called a timeout as a result of a 3-0 Hollins run. Leonard rifled two consecutive kills for her squad before Roark destroyed one of her own, resulting in another Hollins timeout with it down 18-21. Lach posted three kills down the stretch, guiding the Yellow Jackets to a 25-19 win.
- Courtney tallied a kill and then joined Tennessee Gooch (Lansing, N.Y./Lansing) for back-to-back rejections, helping the team out to a 8-2 lead. Once Hollins talked it over, RMC continued the offensive surge until three-straight aces from Lach capped off a 10-0 run. Up 15-5, the team extended its lead to 19-8 on multiple kills from Kennedy McDowney (Odenton, Md./Arundel). With the momentum, Randolph-Macon closed set three on a 5-1 run, as Lach had an ace and Gooch had a kill.
