ASHLAND, Va. – On April 20, 2024, former Randolph-Macon College men's basketball coach Hal Nunnally was one of nine inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.

A native of Petersburg, Va., Coach Nunnally led the Yellow Jacket men's basketball program for 24 seasons. He posted a record of 431-232, recording the most wins in program history. Coach Nunnally led RMC to 20 winning seasons, 10 seasons of at least 20 victories, 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, and an appearance in the 1977 NCAA Division II National Championship game. He earned 11 Coach-of-the-Year awards, including six from the National Association of Basketball Coaches in the South Atlantic District (1977, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1989, 1990). Coach Nunnally was previously inducted into the Randolph-Macon Athletics Hall of Fame.

Paul Gartlan '81, former basketball standout and member of the RMC Athletics Hall of Fame, accepted on behalf of Coach Nunnally. Gartlan spoke of Coach Nunnally's impact not only on his players and assistant coaches, but on the game of basketball itself.

The induction was held at the Henrico Sports and Events Center, just south of Ashland. More than 100 attendees had RMC connections, including numerous former players, managers and coaches who came from various points around the country. President Robert Lindgren, Director of Athletics Jeff Burns and men's basketball coach Josh Merkel joined former assistant and head coaches Mike Rhoades, the current head coach at Penn State University, and Nathan Davis, head coach at the University of New Hampshire.
