ASHLAND, Va. - Randolph-Macon women's basketball saw
Bella Bruce (Herndon, Va./Westfield) lead in scoring and record a career high with 14 points and
Catherine Kagey (Roanoke, Va./Faith Christian) drop a double-double to grab a 74-54 home victory over Roanoke on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened:
- Randolph-Macon jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first two minutes, capped off by a pair of Sam Smith (Chesterfield, Va./St. Gertrude's) free throws. Mariah Cain was the main source of offense for Roanoke in the first period, scoring five of the Maroons eight total points in the period. The Yellow Jackets held a 12-8 advantage with two minutes left and rattled off three straight three-pointers to take a commanding 21-8 lead into the second period.
- In the second period, the explosive offense would continue for the Lemon and Black. Ending the first period on a 9-0 run, Randolph-Macon would keep the machine rolling, rattling off a 12-0 run that lasted until the 7:02 mark in the second period. Cain would convert a jumper that would stop the 21-0 run from the Yellow Jackets and set the scoreboard at 33-10, advantage to Randolph-Macon. Offense was coming from multiple players on the Yellow Jackets, as they would outscore Roanoke 30-11 in the second period and take a 51-19 lead into halftime.
- The Maroons would not go down without a fight and began the second half with an 11-1 run, as the offense ran cold for Randolph-Macon. Alicea Farmer made a driving lay-up with 5:08 left to pull Roanoke within twenty points, still trailing 52-32. Both teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the third period and a Reese Fritz free-throw with :24 seconds on the clock pulled the Maroons to its closest deficit of the second half, down 58-39 with ten minutes left.
- Cain made a lay-up to pull the deficit down to 16 points for the Maroons with 6:54 left in the game. Bruce scored the next five points for Randolph-Macon to stop the growing momentum from Roanoke, giving the Yellow Jackets a 67-50 lead with 3:49 left. The game would come to a close and the Lemon and Black would seal a convincing 74-54 win over Roanoke.
Inside the Numbers:
- Roanoke shot 38.3 percent from the floor, as Randolph-Macon knocked down 38.2 percent of its shots.
- The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the Maroons 46-to-29 in the entire game.
- Bruce led in scoring and had a career high in points with 14 for the Yellow Jackets. The sophomore also added four rebounds, three assists and a block to her afternoon.
- Kagey recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The senior also notched a career high with four blocks and added two assists and a steal.
- Smith contributed 11 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals for Randolph-Macon.
- McKenzie Matheny (Fairfax Station, Va./West Springfield) grabbed eight rebounds to go with her five points off the bench.
- Marisa Ziegler (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) had a career high in rebounds with five and also recorded three assists and two steals to go along with seven points.
