All Heart Yellow Jackets Fall Just Short at WLU

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Randolph-Macon men's soccer team played with huge hearts for a full 90 minutes in its conference playoff matchup with nationally ranked Washington and Lee.

The Basics

Score: (2) Washington and Lee 1, (7) Randolph-Macon 0
Venue: Lexington, Va. / Washington and Lee University / Alston Parker Watt Field
Records: Randolph-Macon (9-7-2, 4-5-1 ODAC); Washington and Lee (11-3-4, 6-0-4 ODAC)

How it Happened
  • Randolph-Macon saw Davian Jackson (Newport News, Va./Menchville) have a great look at the goal with a chance to give the Yellow Jackets the lead in the first 45 minutes. The sophomore had a shot on goal in the 26th minute that would be saved by Will Joseph to keep the game deadlocked at 0-0.
  • Washington and Lee held the majority of the possession in the first half. Adam Braithwaite (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) came clutch in goal for the Lemon and Black, stopping four shots to keep the Generals off the scoreboard, heading into the halftime break.
  • Randolph-Macon played the second half tough with the nationally ranked Generals. Braithwaite made a huge save in the 78th minute on a penalty kick from Weyimi Agbeyegbe to continue the scoreless draw into the final ten minutes of the match.
  • Washington and Lee was fouled in the attacking box again in the 80th minute and would convert the penalty kick by Lucas Pleasants. The Generals took a 1-0 lead late in the second half.
  • The Lemon and Black had an opportunity to tie up the game just one minute later on a throw-in deep in Washington and Lee territory. Jake Hall (Mount Airy, Ga./Tallulah Falls School) had his header go just left of the goal.
  • The final 45 minutes were as physically demanding as collegiate soccer would get for both sides. The Generals used the penalty kick conversion to win the Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's soccer quarterfinal by a slim 1-0 victory.
