How it Happened
  • RMC opened the match with a 4-0 run and continued to hold the lead for majority of the set. The Yellow Jackets led 17-13 before the Cougars tied the score at 19 with a 6-2 run. RMC would re-take the lead but Averett won the final five points of the set to take set one, 25-21.
  • Averett came out in the second set with momentum, holding a 14-12 lead before a 13-1 run in favor of the Lemon and Black gave RMC the set win at 25-15. Grace Parker (Andover, N.J./Pope John XXIII) had six kills during the match-altering run.
  • The Yellow Jackets had all momentum on their side following the second set. They would open a large lead in the third set and didn't look back for a set three win 25-16 to move within a set away from an ODAC Championship appearance.
  • Randolph-Macon began the fourth set with a 7-0 run that seemed to put the match to rest. Averett never got within six points of RMC for the entire set as RMC overpowered the Cougars to a 3-1 win.
