ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon men's soccer team fell to Shenandoah 5-2 on Wednesday in its final regular season game of the 2023 year.
Austin Fattizzi (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Collegiate) scored both goals for the Yellow Jackets in the match.

How it Happened
- The first 23 minutes were dominated by both defensive lines. Neither team was able to put a shot up nor have an efficient run at goal. Randolph-Macon was led by Wiley Eubank (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton), Trevor Moyer (Hampton, Va./Kecoughton), Damien Jackson (Newport News, Va./Menchville) and Bryce Kuberek (King George, Va./King George) in the defensive half.
- The first good chance of the first half came by Dylan Matheny (Greensboro, N.C./Clover Hill) in the 25th minute, as his header went just over the crossbar.
- The Hornets struck quickly as Travis Jett booted the ball to Niclas Vavra that led Nathan Yared with a header into the box. Yared finished it past Adam Braithwaite (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) to give Shenandoah a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute.
- Shenandoah doubled its lead in less than four minutes later, as Yared assisted a Kyle Welch thundering shot into the back of the net.
- Aaron Alexander caught the Yellow Jacket defense out of position in the 32nd minute; he made two good touches and knocked in the Hornets third goal of the first half.
- SU kept the offensive pressure up to score its fourth goal of the first half that was credited to Ryan Shute and assisted by Alexander.
- Randolph-Macon got on the scoreboard in the 79th minute; Davian Jackson (Newport News, Va./Menchville) lobbed the ball into Fattizzi for a goal.
- Vavra picked up a goal in the 86th minute for the Hornets that was assisted by Jasson Acosta.
- Randolph-Macon added a last minute goal in the 90th minute, as Fattizzi tallied his second goal of the game and Bogue Cummings (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) picked up the assist.
Inside the Numbers
- Shenandoah outshot the Yellow Jackets 12-to-10. The Hornets put up seven shots on goal, compared to Randolph-Macon's three in the match.
- The Lemon and Black had five corner opportunities, compared to Shenandoah's two in the match.
- Fattizzi notched his third and fourth goal of the season.
