ASHLAND, Va. -- The Randolph-Macon women's swimming team returned to action for their first meet since Dec. 4 on Friday. They swam against ODAC foe Bridgewater College, continuing their success this season with a 138-67 win.
Individually, R-MC won eight events led by a pair of wins by Caroline Russell (Lynchburg, Va./EC Glass). R-MC also picked up four second-place finishes and six bronze medals.
Russell led the way, finishing first in the 200 free with a personal best time of 2:18.96. She followed it up with a win in the 400 free, finishing in 4:47.01.
Katelyn Vieni (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) finished first in the 200 IM in 2:30.57 and picked up a silver medal in the 100 free in 1:03.81.
Emily Fritz (Reston, Va./South Lakes) also had two podium finishes with a win in the 100 breast , finishing in 1:19.16 and then a personal best finish in the 200 IM, swimming in 2:37.24 to pick up second place.
Kierra Parsons (Akron, Pa./Ephrata) grabbed a gold and silver on the day, finishing first in the 800 free in 10:05.12 and second in the 400 free in 5:01.58.
Kelsey James (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) finished first in the 100 back in 1:09.98 and third in the free in 29.74. Melina Christou (Smithfield, Va./Menchville) also had a first and a third, finishing first in the 100 fly in 1:09.39 and third in the 200 free in 2.21.56.
Kelsey Craighead (Knoxville, Tenn./Knoxville Catholic) had the best swim of the day by point total, finishing first in the 50 free with a personal best time of 28.66.
Sophia Hanson (Hamilton, Va./Woodgrove) picked up the last of the silver medals for R-MC, finishing second in the 100 breast with a personal best time of 1:21.53.
R-MC's bronze finishes came from Maddy Sayasithsena (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) in the 100 back, with a personal best time of 1:12.64, Katie Herzberger (Kernersville, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) with a personal best time in the 800 free (10.38.09), Anna Sprott (Hampton, Va./Peninsula Catholic) in the 100 free (1:06.12), and Claire Tanner (North Chesterfield, Va./James River) in the 100 fly (1:15.02).
The Yellow Jackets won the 200 medley relay, with a time of 2:08.17, and a team of Russell, Fritz, Tess Williams (Midlothian, Va./James River), and Craighead. The 200 free relay team of Craighead, Vieni, James, and Williams finished second in the event with a 1:58.36 finish.
The Yellow Jackets are right back in action Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. for a meet against Marymount in Ashland.
