VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Randolph-Macon women's swimming team closed their season on the road at Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. They continued their strong season by defeating the Marlins 185-61.
Individually, RMC won 11 events, finished second in 10 events, and finished third in four events. Winning two events each were Sophia Hanson (Hamilton, Va./Woodgrove), Kelsey Craighead (Knoxville, Tenn./Knoxville Catholic), Caroline Russell (Lynchburg, Va./EC Glass), and Kesley James (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial).
Hanson had a strong day, finishing first in the 200 breast with a season best time of 2:31.94 and the 100 breast with a time of 1:09.66. She also finished second in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:22.29.
Craighead won both the 50 free in 25.20 as well as the 100 free in 55.84. She capped her day off with a third place finish in the 200 free in 2:06.69.
Russell won both of her individual events on the day, winning the 500 free in 5:28.19 and the 200 fly in 2:15.32.
James finished with a season best time of 1:01.16 to win the 100 back and then finished first in the 200 back in 2:15.31.
Melina Christou (Smithfield, Va./Menchville) picked up a gold, silver, and bronze on the day, winning the 100 fly in 1:01.80. She finished second in the 200 free, swimming a season best time in 2:03.81 as well as in the 100 free (57.61) to finish third in the event.
Emily Fritz (Reston, Va./South Lakes) won the 200 IM in 2:20.53 and finished second in the 100 breast in 1:10.86.
Kierra Parsons (Akron, Pa. Ephrata) won the 1000 free, finishing in 11:20.18, as well as swimming a season best time of 59.67 to finish fourth in the 100 free.
Katelyn Vieni (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) finished second in two events, once in the 50 free in 25.58, and again in the 100 back with a season best time of 1:01.86.
Dagny Hudgins (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) finished second in the 200 back (2:19.90) and finished third in the 50 free in 26.44, which was a season best time for Hudgins.
Katie Herzberger (Kernersville, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) finished second in the 500 free (5:54.37). Anna Sprott (Hampton, Va./Peninsula Catholic) finished second in the 200 breast (2:38.88). Claire Tanner (North Chesterfield, Va./James River) picked up a silver in the 100 fly (1:05.89). Lastly, Sarah Nelson (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) finished second in the 1000 free (12:32.19).
Maddy Sayasithsena (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) picked up a bronze medal in the 100 back in 1:03.56.
RMC won both the 200 medley relay in 1:55.31 and the 200 free relay in 1:33.51.
RMC will participate in ODACs on February 8-11 in Greensboro, N.C.
