ASHLAND, Va. -- The Randolph-Macon women's swimming team hosted 20th-ranked Washington and Lee for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon. W&L won 10 events to defeat R-MC 160-101.
R-MC won four events on the day, two of which by senior Emily Fritz (Reston, Va./South Lakes). They also grabbed six second place finishes and nine third place finishes.
Fritz won both the 100 breast and the 200 breast, finishing the 100 in 1:10.55 and finishing the 200 in 2:30.96. She also finished fourth in the 200 IM.
Katelyn Vieni (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) picked up a gold medal in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:11.65. She also had a personal best time of 2:02.18 to finish third in the 200 free and then finished second in the 50 free in 25.99.
Caroline Russell (Lynchburg, Va./EC Glass) was the third Yellow Jacket to pick up a gold medal on the day, winning the 1000 free with a season best time of 10:58.72. She also finished third in both the 200 back (2:15.78) and the 100 fly (1:02.39).
Sophia Hanson (Hamilton, Va./Woodgrove) grabbed two silvers, one in the 100 breast (1:12.08) and another in the 200 breast (2:36.28).
Kelsey James (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) rode a season best time to finish second in the 100 back (1:01.83). Melina Christou (Smithfield, Va./Menchville) finished second in the 200 fly (2:18.57) and Kierra Parsons (Akron, Pa./Ephrata) finished second in the 500 free (5:33.31).
Senior Katie Herzberger (Kernersville, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) finished third in the 1000 free in 12:08.34 and finished fourth in the 500 free in 5:59.13.
Senior Kelsey Craighead (Knoxville, Tenn./Knoxville Catholic) also grabbed a third-place finish in the 50 free, finishing in 26.02.
Dagny Hudgins (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) finished fourth in the 100 back (1:03.90).
James, Fritz, Christou, and Vieni finished third in the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:53.90. Hudgins, Christou, Russell, and James finished third in the 200 free relay in 1:46.64.
R-MC will be back in action for the season finale at Virginia Wesleyan on Jan. 28 at 1:00 p.m.
