Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon women's basketball team hit the road for a midweek ODAC matchup with Bridgewater College on Wednesday night. The R-MC defense came up big in a 57-46 victory over the Eagles.

The Basics:

Score: Randolph-Macon 57, Bridgewater 46

Location/Venue: Bridgewater, Va./Bridgewater College/Nininger Hall

Records: Randolph-Macon (11-5, 8-2 ODAC), Bridgewater (12-3, 7-2 ODAC)

How it Happened:

  • The Yellow Jackets had to battle from the opening tip, as triples by senior Devan Conrad (Parkville, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and fifth year senior Cheridan Hatfield (Fishersville, Va/Wilson Memorial) helped R-MC to a 13-12 lead after one quarter.
  • Junior Catherine Kagey (Roanoke, Va./Faith Christian) led the way in the second quarter, posting six points and two steals, but the game was knotted up 26-26 at the half.
  • The third frame was another tightly contested quarter, as R-MC was able to knock down a pair of threes to combat the Eagles shooting 54% in the quarter. R-MC held onto a 41-40 lead with ten minutes to play.
  • Freshman Morgan Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) was a spark off the bench in the fourth quarter, scoring five points including a triple, as well as grabbing three rebounds to lead the R-MC charge that resulted in a 57-46 win over Bridgewater.

By the Numbers:

  • R-MC's defense was stifling, forcing the Eagles to shoot just 6% from beyond the arc.
  • On the opposite side of the ball, R-MC shot 40% from the field and 37% from three, knocking down six threes in the game.
  • R-MC's six turnovers were their lowest in a game this season, and the first time in single-digits this year. The previous season-low was 12 turnovers against EMU and W&L.
  • Catherine Kagey led all scorers with 15 points to couple with eight rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.
  • Cheridan Hatfield was the other Yellow Jacket in double-figures with 11 points. She also had four assists and three steals.
  • Devan Conrad hit three triples to help the R-MC offensive charge, assisting on the boards with six rebounds as well.
  • Morgan Miller was a force off the bench, piling up nine points on 4-7 shooting and eight rebounds.
