Women's Hoops Falls in Matinee with Generals

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon women's basketball team hosted Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon in a matchup between the two top teams in the ODAC standings. The Generals got hot on offense to cruise to a 75-50 win.

The Basics:

Score: Washington and Lee 75, Randolph-Macon 50

Location/Venue: Ashland, Va./Randolph-Macon College/Crenshaw Gym

Records: Washington and Lee (12-4, 9-0 ODAC), Randolph-Macon (10-5, 7-2 ODAC)

How it Happened:

  • The Yellow Jackets opened the game scoring well as Paige Anderson (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) posted six points in the first quarter, but W&L made a late run to have a 15-11 lead after 10 minutes.
  • The Generals couldn't miss from the field in the second, shooting an astounding 58% from the field and 71% from three in the second frame to open up a 40-21 lead at halftime.
  • The third quarter was more of the same, as the Generals played stifiling defense, as R-MC didn't have much of an answer on the offensive end, facing a 59-30 deficit with a quarter to play.
  • R-MC's offense came back alive in the fourth, but W&L kept the pressure. Catherine Kagey (Roanoke, Va./Faith Christian) and Cheridan Hatfield (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) each had six fourth quarter points as R-MC outscored the Generals 20-16 in the frame but fell to W&L 75-50.

By the Numbers:

  • The R-MC defense forced fourteen turnovers from the Generals, picking up 10 steals for the third time in the last four games.
  • Kagey amassed another double-double, with 13 points and 12 rebounds. She added three assists and three steals as well.
  • Anderson had a solid day as well, with nine points and seven rebounds. She got it done on the other side of the ball too, with two steals and two blocks.
  • Julianna Park (Fairfax Station, Va./Davidson Day) buried three triples as well.
  • The Yellow Jackets got outrebounded, but still posted 19 offensive rebounds on the day, six by Kagey.
