How it Happened
- R-MC opened the scoring just over seven minutes into the game with a shot from just inside the box from sophomore forward Teddy Westervelt (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) thanks to the setup from senior midfielder Colton Howell (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen).
- In the final moments of the first half, H-SC evened the score with a laser off the foot of Matt Johnson which sent it into the break knotted up at one.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Adam Braithwaite (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) made multiple big time stops to keep the score even through the majority of the second half.
- In the 77th minute, senior forward Bryce Martin (Chesterfield, Va./Middletown) came off the bench and instantly made an impact, netting the game winning goal on a pass from Howell, who added his second assist.
- R-MC had a chance to extend the lead but smartly opted to play the time and take it to the corner to run the final moments off the clock and take home the victory.
Inside the Numbers
- Braithwaite was a wall in net with seven saves, many of which were game saving stops.
- Howell added two assists to his team leading total of six.
- Martin's goal came shortly after coming off the bench in his first match back from injury and provided a much-needed spark late.
- Westervelt, the former ODAC Player of the Week, added another goal, which brings his total to four goals in his last five contests. Even after his goal, his play up top helped elevate the Yellow Jackets to victory.
- The center backs, senior Max Radosavljevic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and senior Elijah Lloyd (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) along with senior midfielder Alec Mowry (Salem, Va./Salem) were a wall in front of Braithwaite, keeping the Tigers off the board in the second half.
