How It Happened
- Max Presley (Sr., Hilton Head, S.C. / Goochland) and Mitchall Herman (Fr., Fairfax, Va. / Flint Hill) started off the day with a big 8-2 victory at third doubles against the team of Noah Carney and Jose Merhej. It was the biggest difference in doubles play, and both Presley and Herman would have a pivotal impact later on in the day.
- Ryan Aud (Sr., Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) and Max Doyle (So., Alexandria, Va. / St. John's College) weren't far behind. They defeated the team of Colby Cook and Bhuvan Ambekallu by a count of 8-3 at second doubles to give R-MC a quick 2-0 lead.
- That lead almost went to 3-0, but Max Hammock (So., Vienna, Va. / James Madison) and Braxton Fagan (Fr., Glen Allen, Va. / Deep Run) narrowly fell in a top pairings thriller 8-7.
- In singles play, Randolph rebounded to take the lead at 3-2 after wins at second and first singles. Doyle was able to tie it back up quickly with a 6-4, 6-0 decision over Colby Cook at fourth singles. The tie didn't last long as the WildCats went back up with a win at third singles.
- Needing wins in the final two singles matches, Herman and Presley left no doubt and brought the Jackets back with a vengeance. Herman finished off Carney at sixth singles with a pair of 6-1 sets to tie the match at 4-all, and Presley dominated his opponent Jose Merhej with a pair of 6-0 blankings for the win.
