Doyle Doubles Up W's In Men's Tennis Loss To BC

(ASHLAND, Va.) – Wednesday's men's tennis match between Randolph-Macon and Bridgewater went down to the wire with both teams knotted at 4-all. Unfortunately the Yellow Jackets came up on the bottom end of the final match in play which gave the Eagles the victory.

The loss drops the YJs to .500 on the year, but it did not affect their conference standing as it was a non-conference contest because of unbalanced scheduling within the league.

The Basics

Score: Randolph-Macon 4, Bridgewater 5

Venue: Banks Tennis Courts

Records: Randolph-Macon 4-4, Bridgewater 7-2

How It Happened

  • The top two doubles pairs split with Ryan Aud (Sr., Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) and Max Doyle (So., Alexandria, Va. / St. John's College) picking up a point for the Yellow Jackets and tying the team score early. The duo paired at second doubles and defeated Mark Gordon and Noah Hughes by a count of 8-4.
  • Looking to make it 2-1 in favor of R-MC Max Presley (Sr., Hilton Head, S.C. / Goochland) and Mitchall Herman (Fr., Fairfax, Va. / Flint Hill) battled Gabe Elder and Bryce Cline through 13 games but fell 8-5 to give the Eagles the advantage heading to singles play.
  • Doyle was quick to go 2-0 on the day as he defeated Matthew Leonard at fourth singles. Doyle took the opening set with a 6-0 shutout before going 6-2 in the second.
  • Braxton Fagan (Fr., Glen Allen, Va. / Deep Run) tied the team score at 3-3 with a third singles win. He defeated Gordon 6-0 before a close 6-4 win in the second.
  • Presley gave the Lemon and Black the lead at 4-3 after his victory in fifth singles. He defeated Leyton Pullin 7-6 (5), 6-2.
  • Bridgewater was able to tie the match with a win at sixth singles which left everything up to second singles. Aud scored the first set by a 6-4 margin and nearly finished the match with another close set for the second, but was on the bottom end of a 7-5 margin to force the third. Elder was able to get the best end of a 6-4 set which gave the Eagles the 5-4 win.
