How It Happened
- The day opened up well for the Yellow Jackets as they took two of the three doubles matches for an early lead. Ryan Aud (Sr., Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) and Max Doyle (So., Alexandria, Va. / St. John's College) scored an 8-3 win over Matt Kendrick and Frank Borden to knot the match up at 1-1 with the Tigers at second doubles. Max Hammock (So., Vienna, Va. / James Madison) and Braxton Fagan (Fr., Glen Allen, Va. / Deep Run) then put the Lemon and Black in the lead with an 8-7 win over Barrett Foster and Tyler Brice. A tiebreaker was needed with the Jackets scoring the deciding game 7-3.
- The Tigers tied the match at 2-2 early as John Kendrick took a 6-2, 6-1 decision against Mitchall Herman (Fr., Fairfax, Va. / Flint Hill) at sixth singles. H-SC then took the lead on a win at second singles. Aud nearly forced a tiebreaker, but fell in the second set 6-4 after dropping the first 6-0.
- Max Presley (Sr., Hilton Head, S.C. / Goochland) fell to Matt Kendrick at fifth singles 6-2, 6-1. Doyle fought hard at fourth singles early with a 6-4 set taken by Henry Singleton, but couldn't equalize in the second at Singleton also won that one 6-2. Fagan then fell at third singles 6-3, 6-2 to Taylor Fox.
- Hammock was the last to finish and was the closest to scoring a point in singles action. He took the first set 6-2 against Foster at first singles, but Foster bounced back and scored a 6-1 win in the second. The tiebreaker was first to 10 and won by Foster 10-7.
