(ASHLAND, Va.) – The Randolph-Macon men's tennis team had quite a hill to climb as it hosted Division I Hampton on a sunny Monday afternoon. While the Yellow Jackets gave it their all, it was no match for the talented Pirates.
The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon 2, Hampton 7
Venue: Banks Tennis Courts
Records: Randolph-Macon 1-2, Hampton 2-8
How It Happened
- The Lemon and Black lost the top two pairings in doubles action by identical 8-0 scores. Ryan Aud (Sr., Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) and (Max Doyle) teamed together at firsts, while Max Hammock (So., Vienna, Va. / James Madison) and Braxton Fagan (Fr., Glen Allen, Va. / Deep Run) were coupled at seconds.
- Although they were defeated in the top two pairs, the Jackets were able to register a point as Hampton was forced to forfeit at third doubles as the Pirates only had five players. Max Presley (Sr., Hilton Head, S.C. / Goochland) and Mitchall Herman (Fr., Fairfax, Va. / Flint Hill) got credit for the victory at third doubles as a result.
- In singles action, the Pirates continued to push out its lead and eventually secured the team win. R-MC was still able to get another point, however, as Herman took the forfeit win at sixth singles.
- Aud was able to battle in the second set of his match against Cliff Dwyer, but the senior still fell 6-2 at second singles.
- Doyle's match was the last to finish as he made Jeremiah Williams work for every point at fourth singles. He was defeated by identical scores of 6-1.
- Presley also battled at fifth singles against Daud Gantt-Bey with numerous attacks just missing in a 6-0, 6-1 defeat.
