Box Score (LYNCHBURG, Va.) – Aimee DeBell (Sr., Studley, Va. / St. Gertrude) and Catherine Kagey (So., Roanoke, Va. / Faith Christian) recorded double-doubles in Saturday's women's basketball game with Lynchburg, but it wasn't enough as the Yellow Jackets fell in and close battle.
The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon 51, Lynchburg 54
Venue: Turner Gymnasium
Records: Randolph-Macon 12-6, 10-2 ODAC; Lynchburg 12-8, 8-5 ODAC
How It Happened
- The Hornets held the advantage in the early stages of the game, but the Yellow Jackets were able to make a run midway through the second quarter. A Kagey jumper sparked a 10-2 run that gave the Lemon and Black the lead after a 3-pointer by Haley Pasqualone (Jr., Purcellville, Va. / Loudoun Valley). It was short lived, however, as Lynchburg closed the half on a 13-3 run to head into halftime up 36-28.
- R-MC's defense shined through in the third quarter as the Jackets climbed back into the game. Trailing by 10 with 7:30 to go in the frame, the Jackets allowed just one basket the rest of the quarter while DeBell guided a 17-2 run with eight points. It resulted in a 47-42 lead with 7:23 to go in the game.
- Unfortunately the momentum didn't stay and Lynchburg was able to eventually tie the game at 49-all on a layup with 3:18 to go. After the teams evenly split the next four points, Lynchburg's Lizzie Davis put the hosts up for good with a free throw and added a jumper with just under a minute to go. R-MC had a chance to tie it up, but a 3-point attempt hit the back end of the iron as time expired.
Inside The Numbers
- DeBell picked up her second double-double of the season and led the Jackets with 16 points. She was 8-of-15 from the field and pulled down 10 rebounds.
- Kagey finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds for her sixth of the season. She also distributed the ball well with five assists.
- Randolph-Macon dominated the glass and had one of its largest rebounding margins of the season. The Jackets outrebounded the Hornets 45-25 and had almost as many offensive rebounds as the Hornets had total with 20.
- Lynchburg was led by Kate Kolb who scored 16 points. She was 6-for-9 from the field and added six rebounds.
- Erin Green and Lizzie Davis also hit double figures for the Jackets with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
