Location/Venue: Danville, Va./Averett University/Grant Center

Records: Randolph-Macon (2-3, 1-0 ODAC), Averett (1-4, 0-2 ODAC)

How it Happened:

  • Randolph-Macon's offense went through Catherine Kagey (Roanoke, Va./Faith Christian) as she was scoring at will from the jump. She had six points in the first frame to have the Yellow Jackets in front by two after ten minutes.
  • The offense sputtered a bit in the second, as R-MC shot just 3-12 from the field in the quarter but holding to just a four-point deficit at halftime.
  • Jane Elkins (Annandale, Va./Bishop Ireton) led the way in the third, going 3-4 from the floor for six points, coupled with great defense from R-MC led to a seven-point swing in the third to be ahead going into the final quarter.
  • Kagey closed out the game with eight points in the fourth to help R-MC extend the lead and seal the win after being up by as many as 14 late in the game.

By the Numbers:

  • Kagey stole the show with 24 points to couple with nine rebounds in the win. Her first 20-point performance this season.
  • Elkins posted 12 points and four rebounds, being very efficient from the floor shooting 6-9.
  • Cheridan Hatifield (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) added 11 points for her first game of the year in double figures.
  • Paige Anderson (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) was a force off the bench, corralling seven rebounds including four offensive boards.
  • R-MC's defense made a statement, holding the Cougars to just 31.3% shooting and 27.3% from beyond the Arc.
