How It Happened
- After a close first quarter left the Yellow Jackets up 14-13, the Lemon and Black broke the game open with a 17-2 run sparked by three buckets by DeBell in the first 2:23 of the frame. Catherine Kagey (So., Roanoke, Va. / Faith Christian) and Juliana Park (Fr., Fairfax Station, Va. / Davidson Day) both added a pair of buckets, while Cheridan Hatfield (Sr., Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) drained a 3-pointer to help extend the lead to 31-15 midway through the frame.
- The Jackets eventually went to the locker room up 38-20 and kept the momentum going with another dominating frame in the third. Park added two more buckets and a free throw in a 9-0 run to set the score at 49-23 while the defense limited the Royals to single digits and 21.4% shooting, EMU's worst during the eight quarters against the Jackets.
- At the end of the third, R-MC led 55-27 and eventually took its largest lead of the game after a Hatfield layup put the Jackets up 30 early in the fourth.
Inside The Numbers
- DeBell finished with 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. She pulled down 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the year. Of the 10, five of them were on the offensive end which led to six second chance points.
- While she was the only Yellow Jacket in double-figures, 12 others in Lemon and Black were able to find the scorers' column. Five others had at least eight points.
- R-MC dominated the Royals on the boards and outrebounded the hosts by a 59-26 margin. The total rebounds for the Jackets set a new season-best five five.
- The top three scorers for Eastern Mennonite who combined for 46 points on Saturday were limited to just 12 points Wednesday. Tonight the Royals were paced by Brii Redfearn with 14 points.
- The Yellow Jackets have now won three consecutive games for the third time this season.
