How It Happened
- The Yellow Jackets used an 8-0 rally to come back from a three point deficit to take a 20-15 lead and put them in position for the opening set win. Danielle LaRosa (Sr., Charlottesville, Va. / Albermarle) sparked the run with three consecutive kills. It was a dominant first game for her as she finished with five kills on six attempts in the frame.
- After the Avenging Angels countered with the next four points, R-MC closed out the set with a 5-0 run.
- The second set started out well for the Jackets as they went up 5-2, but Meredith stormed back with a 10-0 rally to take back momentum en route to the set win knotting the match up at one game apiece.
- Randolph-Macon created some separation in the third set a 7-1 run aided by three Ashlyn Knott (So., Clarksville, Va. / Bluestone) kills gave the Jackets a 15-8 lead. Meredith battled back to cut the deficit back to two at 17-15, but the next five points went R-MC's way to go up by seven en route to the win.
- The fourth set was the closest of the night as neither team held a lead of more than three points. The set was tied at 20-all before Randolph-Macon's offense took charge and closed the match with five kills out of the next seven points with LaRosa responsible for the first three.
Inside The Numbers
- LaRosa had a career night with a new personal best 12 kills. She made just one error on 17 attempts for a kill percentage of .647. Defensively she gave Meredith problems up front and blocked three attacks.
- Speaking of blocks, Knott also did well to disrupt the Angels offense as she led the team with four.
- Leslie Currie (So., Mechanicsville, Va. / Hanover) and Madison Warlick (Sr., Charlottesville, Va. / Albermarle) paced the team on the receiving end. Currie had co-match high honors along with Meredith's Lauren Phillips with 23 digs. Warlick added 15.
